Christian Matzner

I was born in 1970 and already at a young age I was interested in mechanics, how things work and cars. Probably my dad, being a trained mechanic,  had something  to do with that, as he restored cars as a hobby.

When I turned 16 I got my 50cc Puch Dakota. suddenly me freedom increased by several hundred percent. Turning 16 (1986) a limited drivers license for max 125cc and bought myself a Yamaha DT125 LC. Loved that bike. A friend of mine bought a bike exactly like mine. They were the only black ones I have ever seen at a dealer. All other

were red as far as I know. We rode everyday except when it was snowing. I started reading motorcycle magazine and dreamed of traveling to foreign countries.

We made it all the way to Gothenburg... a 2 hour drive by car.. but we took small roads ending up driving all day to get there.

Turning eighteen (1988) I took my drivers license for car but also an unlimited drivers license for motorcycle. Lacking enough money to have both I spent my money on a car. My friend had a Honda CB750F which I rode occasionally. The years passed and I spent time on other hobbies.

Many years later, in 2005 I finally got around byuing myself a motorbike again. It was a Kawasaki ZZR1100 with 150BHP fully equipped with panniers and everything. I was back dreaming about traveling long distance. Unfortunately  there was no one amongst my friends who shared that same dream.

I rode the Kawasaki for 2,5 years before it had to give way for a 6,5m boat instead.

In early 2014 spring I was bitten again by the motorcycle virus as my friend Jens decided to take his motorcycle license.  In march 2014 I bought myself a BMW K1200LT. It's a wonderful bike to ride . The massive weight is not felt as soon as you start rolling.

As soon as I had the bike all the old dreams of traveling with a motorcycle returned. I guess I will never get rid of this thought unless I just do it... long distance travel.

Having spent 2014 getting to know the bike, having ridden as a trainer for Jens before he took his test and gearing up with equipment I think I could actually make my dream come true.

Will I dare,,, ?

Will I do it... ?

Time will show.

February 2015 I saw a good deal on a BMW R1200GSA, which led me to trade in my K1200LT for the "Big Adventure" bike.

So now I am a happy R1200 GS Adventure rider and I have not regret it so far.

It's strange how easy one gets drawn into the farkle swamp spending more money than planned...

I will post all my actions and thoughts via facebook on this homepage.
